New rerouted Texas Sunset loop! Texas. Sunset gets its namesake from the brutal Texas sun that often bakes this trail in the evenings. The trail starts to the left of the trailhead and runs under the powerlines to a cut-in by the church buildings. Loop in across church property and follow the trail over the road and then along the fence line until you come up to the drop-in for a nice down hill hike.
More downhill into the "valley" area of Texas Sunset, where in the spring the wildflowers are beautiful. Climb up the jeep road and hang the first right into the new rerouted Texas Sunset loop, which ultimately leads you back to the jeep gravel road after some challenging ups and downs through the trees.
Make a right onto the gravel jeep road and the next immediate left to more challenging climbs and drops. That trail dumps back onto the jeep road, on which you hang a left for some final climbing back to the top of the hill, . Finally, make a right onto the last portion of Texas Sunset through the woods and across a wooden bridge to the trailhead and Ranger loop.
Part of the Big Cedar Wilderness Trails.
