Pinehurst Trail

It's possible that the origins of this trail pre-date the founding of the United States, all the way back to 1732. What was once used as an access road for a former farmer can now be used to access the park and Western Avenue. During the trail's lifetime, it has moved from well-traveled road to a utility and sewer line, and back to the footpath that exists today. Old manhole covers speak to the history of the area, dating back to the 1930's. Visitors today can meander along this gently sloping trail, and appreciate the combination of nature and history that blend together on the way. The trail follows a small creek, and visitors will cross multiple times along their journey. Most crossings feature bridges, and none are dangerous. The trail meanders peacefully, making this a popular place to enjoy a solitary trip. An old dam provides a bit of historical evidence of the past use of the trail, and also provides an excellent spot for a snack, or just to take in the forest around you.
