This wonderful trail runs along Rock Creek from the Maryland border to the confluence of Piney Branch and Rock Creek. The entire length is just about 5.5 miles one way, but but don't be fooled by the word "Valley" in its name. The trail has plenty of elevation change as it twists and turns on the banks of the river. Complete the whole route, or tackle it in sections, you won't be disappointed.Contrary to the Western Ridge Trail, the Valley Trails path is a bit more rugged. Watch your footing for rocks, roots and narrow passages. While you'll find fewer hikers along the Valley trail, this is probably the most popular trail in the park overall, and a great place to see wildlife like deer and black snakes.
