Lone Mountain Summit

While single and double track trails circle the Lone Mountain area, this trail is the most direct route to the summit.Beginning from a dirt turnout near 7 Troughs Road just outside of Lovelock, the hike first follows a rough double track that begins climbing steeply up the mountain as it skirts the steep slopes and wraps around toward the western mountain slope. The trail remain stoney double track for the first 3/4 miles, with metal blazes marking the distance and elevation gain along the sides of the path. After reaching a flat area marking the end of the double track, the path begins scrambling up a mix of slick pebbles and scree for the remainder of the hike until reaching the top. This section also leads to unparalled views of the surrounding areas, including overlooking Lovelock and the I-80 corridor in one direction, while revealing the vast expanses of the rolling mountains in every other direction.It's also possible to look down and see the interconnecting network of trails below that wrap around Long Mountain, along with neighboring landscapes. The one noticeable area below are the trees and dirt of the Lone Mountain Cemetery. From the top, hikers can retrace their route to the bottom, or explore any other looping paths to eventually find their way back to the parking area.There are no amenities or water located at or near the trail, and no shade along the hike unless in the shadow of the mountain itself. Hikers should arrive prepared.
