Description
A small amount of parking is available at the end of the dirt road that leads to this trailhead, but it can be quite muddy. Much more parking is available at a paved parking lot right off of NF-3010 at the entrance to Marys Peak Campground. The trailhead begins in managed forest but quickly enters mature forest. After about 500 feet you'll encounter the intersection that forms this loop - you can go either way, but this description is mapped clockwise. Head northeast through the forest and climb steadily to the first meadow opening at about a third of a mile. The trail then turns south along the inner edge of the forest before switchingbacking to another meadow opening at about a half mile. Finally at about 3/4 of a mile you'll come to an intersection with a tie trail to the Summit Loop Trail which you should take to get to the true summit with the best views (you could also make a little figure-eight trail with Summit Loop Trail and this trail). After summiting take the other half of this loop to the west and downhill. As you descend the mountain two switchbacks will take you out of the woods and into the meadow for open views. At the fifth switchback you'll encounter a bridge over a small stream with unique flora to the trail. A very small climb brings you back to the first intersection and a 500 foot hike will take you back to the trailhead.
