The north parking lot (start/finish) is a little smaller. Can access this trail from the main parking lot.
Path Type
Loop
Starting from the smaller parking lot, you can make your way down the grass path. It's a nice warmup stretch. You'll come to a Y, with an obvious decision on intensity. This route, we went left (uphill). Nothing exhausting. The single path is obvious.
You'll cross a bridge over a creek, and continue on the trail. There will be a less noticeable trail to the left (listen for a 30 foot creek waterfall). Follow it, and take a right once you reach the water. There is a minor hazard, the cliff, and possibility of slippery creek rock. Crossover a small crevice, and descend.
Take two lefts and you be taken to the more popular, historic part of the trail. Here, you can view overlooks, tunnels, rail crossings, and more. Double back to the waterfall, and get back on the trail prior to branching off. Hang a left, and trek a long a mild single path. You'll eventually reach the most difficult, winding incline. Once you peak, you'll emerge on what appears to be an access road (oil/gas pump), where you'll descend into the North Parking Lot.
Can tailor route. I change it up all the time, but this pretty much maps out the obvious northern perimeter and access to waterfall and tunnel.
