Picacho Peak Sunset Loop

Picacho Peak Sunset Loop is a 6.5-mile loop around Picacho Peak State Park that includes an ascent to Picacho Peak. The loop begins with the moderately rated Sunset Vista Trail and is suitable for walking and hiking. Located right off Interstate-10 in southern Arizona, Picacho Peak State Park is a popular tourist destination for those looking to take a break from the road, stretch their legs, or even camp overnight. The park features a visitor center with informational plaques, exhibits, and a small store. Picacho Peak is the park's centerpiece with its spire standing prominently from the summit, which can be seen for miles. The park also has a playground, picnic tables, bathrooms, a campground, and, of course, several hiking trails.Sunset Vista Trail begins on the west side of the park and ascends steep and rocky terrain to Picacho Peak. In the steepest parts, steel cables have been anchored to the rock, and it is recommended that you wear gloves while holding onto them. With sweeping views across the Sonoran Desert, it is a short, challenging, but rewarding hike. The park, and surrounding area, are characterized by a vast desert landscape, unique geology, and historical significance.
