Description
The Jordan River Trail is an impressive pathway that spans 45 miles alongside the Jordan River. The parkway is open to all non motorized users, and is popular with joggers, walkers and bicyclists. There are multiple trailheads and access points. One possible short hike begins from near 10600 South and River Front Parkway. The setting is fairly urban, with buildings visible and traffic noise, as is the case for most of the Jordan River Parkway. You'll begin by walking through the Riverfront East Park. There are a couple of good viewpoints of the Jordan River and Wasatch Mountains in the distance. There are also open grassy areas and picnic areas with tables (some covered).Continue on through the Riverfront Park Fishing Ponds area, where you'll come to the Midas Ponds. These small ponds are a popular fishing spot with locals. The ponds make for a good turnaround point, with the hike being about 2.25 miles round trip. Of course you can continue onward as far as you wish to extend the hike.
