Description
Leona Divide Loop is a 30.1-mile route in Angeles National Forest located between the small towns of Agua Dulce and Lake Hughes. It features rolling hills, lots of chaparral, and scenic views. The area is accessible year round and the route uses trails that are popular for running, hiking, backpacking, and horseback riding. The route starts by following the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) north from Bouquet Canyon Road. The trail follows a rolling terrain across the chaparral-covered hillsides of the Pelona Mountains. After about 15 miles / halfway through the route, leave the PCT and head south on the Leona Divide Fire Road / Forest Road 6N04. This dirt road runs parallel to the PCT and will eventually take you back to Bouquet Canyon Road. The route ends with a short road walk back to the trailhead or pull out where you parked. MILES AND WAYPOINTS00.00 - Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) at Bouquet Canyon Road.06.40 - Bob Kimmerly Memorial Bench - a wooden bench and nice rest spot. 13.00 - San Francisquito Canyon Road - water may be available via a faucet located at the Green Valley Fire Station. 14.00 - Cross Grass Mountain Road.15.00 - Leave PCT and head south on Leona Divide / Forest Road 6N04.19.00 - Cross San Francisquito Canyon Road. 23.00 - Cross Forest Road 6N09.29.00 - Turn right on Bouquet Canyon Road.WATERThis section is very dry, plan to bring and carry sufficient food and water. PARKINGStreet parking is available via small turn outs along Bouquet Canyon Road. CONSIDERATIONSMountain bikes are not permitted on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT).ALTERNATE OPTIONSShorter Distance: Several dirt road crossings make it possible to shorten the overall distance if necessary (see below for miles and waypoints). Avoid Dirt Roads: To avoid the dirt road section simply remain on the PCT and complete the route as an out-and-back, rather than a loop.
