Description
Indian Canyon to Vasquez Rocks is an 18.5-mile out-and-back trail located east of Santa Clarita, southeast of Agua Dulce and just an hour away from Los Angeles, California. This is a moderately challenging trek that follows the singletrack Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). From Indian Canyon the trail heads north, crosses railroad tracks, and traverses a dry, hilly landscape known for its unique rock formations. This multi-use trail is open to running, hiking, backpacking and horseback-riding.Head north from Indian Canyon Trailhead and cross Soledad Canyon Road. On the opposite side of the road, follow the signs for the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). After crossing a stream and railroad tracks, the trail ascends into the hills and crosses rolling terrain. It offers expansive views, but little shade as it meanders along hillsides and traverses over ridgelines. After passing through an underpass under Highway 14, the trail enters Vasquez Rocks. Discover the unique prehistoric rock formations of Vasquez Rocks and then return to Indian Canyon via the PCT southbound. WATERFor information about the crowd sourced water report for the Pacific Crest Trail please visit https://www.pcta.org/discover-the-trail/backcountry-basics/water/pct-water-report/. WHEN TO VISITThe trail is open year round however, it does not provide much shade or water, so spring, fall, and winter are the best times to visit when the temperatures are cooler.
