There and Back
This hike has great views, both at the summit of Eagle Mountain and at the top of the Narrows Trail. Note that the trek to Eagle Summit is off trail. Start at Boulder Cabin and make your way through the woods. When you come to a fork in the trail, stay right. Cross Cache Creek and you'll see a large uphill boulder field. That's the base of Eagle Mountain. Working your way up the mountain is difficult and requires a decent amount of scrambling up large boulders. There's no trail up the mountain - you pick your own path. At the summit, you'll have great panoramic views of the Wichitas, with Mount Scott to your northeast and Elk Mountain and the Charon's Garden Wilderness area to your west. The Narrows Trail is pretty popular, but I didn't see anyone on Eagle Mountain so it's a good side trip for visitors seeking for solitude, while still being pretty accessible. Once you've finished the peak, the Narrows Trail is a scenic way to return to your vehicle. It takes about an hour and a half to work your way to the summit.
