Description
The Seven Wonders Route is a fantastic way to see several of the most beautiful areas within Valley of Fire State Park on a single outing. Please note that this is an unmarked route. Although well traveled, it is easy to get off course. Be sure to come prepared with a way to navigate this route. The Seven Wonders Route is best combined with the Fire Wave Trail thus forming a loop. The route begins at the parking area for the Fire Wave Trail, near White Domes. Head south and follow a sandy trail that should have many footprints to guide the way. The prominent White Dome will loom large to your right. Before long you'll come to three of the seven wonders - Fire Cave, Thunderstorm Arch, and Crazy Hill. These wonders are on the small side, but quite intriguing. The terrain gets a little more difficult on the next stretch as you'll have to work your way around some rocks in a bit of a narrow area. You'll soon come to a notable junction where the Seven Wonders Route turns left and follows a wash. However, you'll also notice a small slot canyon to your right. It's suggested you explore this slot first, then return to head up the wash where the terrain isn't as exciting. The wash leads to the park road which you will cross. Immediately after the road crossing the terrain becomes more interesting again as you enter Pink (or Pastel) Canyon. The colors of this canyon are gorgeous, certainly a highlight of the route. You'll then leave Pink Canyon as it widens into a wash and make a left turn to climb slightly uphill and enter the Fire Wave. This area is also quite gorgeous and marks the end of the Seven Wonders Route. To complete the loop follow the marked Fire Wave Trail back to the trailhead.
