Ringhaver Park, in southwest Jacksonville, is a multi-purpose, 576 acre park. In addition to the large soccer and softball fields, there are several play areas, tennis courts, ponds, and trails. The park is named for Lambert C. Ringhaver (1910-1976), whose family made a memorial donation for the initial park development. The Paved Loop in the Ortega Stream Valley nature area, is a two-mile asphalt path with wooden bridges. Along the way, visitors see a glimpse of true Florida landscape: oaks, pines, ferns, and palmettos. Mosquito repellant is strongly recommended in the summer months. There is also an 826-foot boardwalk along the Ortega River and a pier that may be used for launching kayaks and canoes.
