Description
The first 1/2 mile is the old USFS Road #065 that descends and connects with the Buck Mountain Trail. This hike takes the western leg to the ridge. After about 2 1/2 miles of beautiful mixed conifer forest trail it opens up on the ridge line. Arriving at an elevation of 4651 feet, Buck Mountain is a great lunch spot. Spectacular views of the North Fork Umatilla Wilderness are the reward. Looking north the Buck Creek watershed below and on the horizon Grouse Mountain on the horizon are visible. Several stands of old growth Ponderosa pine trees can be enjoyed in this area.
