Description
Located adjacent to the South Rim Visitor Center, Mather Point is one of the most popular and easily accessible overlooks in Grand Canyon National Park. This short, 0.24-mile paved cement path makes for an easy walk for visitors of all abilities. The trail is fully wheelchair and stroller accessible, with ramps alongside stairs to reach the viewing platforms. The overlook is positioned on a cliff edge protected by metal railings. From this vantage point, visitors can enjoy expansive, panoramic views of the Grand Canyon, including a small glimpse of the Colorado River far below. On a clear day, the North Rim is visible directly across the 10-mile-wide canyon. Due to its accessibility and proximity to the main visitor center, Mather Point is heavily crowded during the day, particularly during the peak summer season. Visiting at sunrise, sunset, or on clear nights offers a quieter experience with opportunities for stargazing and moonlit views of the canyon.
