There and Back
The route begins at the South Kaibab Trailhead on the South Rim and descends to Skeleton Point before returning to the rim.
From the trailhead, descend steep switchbacks carved into the canyon wall. Reach Ooh Aah Point at 0.9 miles, which opens up to panoramic easterly views. Continue descending along the ridge to Cedar Ridge at 1.5 miles, where vault toilets are available. From Cedar Ridge, descend further down the ridge, passing through additional switchbacks to reach Skeleton Point at 3.0 miles, which offers views of the Colorado River.
This is the maximum recommended turnaround point for day hikers. Turn around here and climb 2,040 vertical feet back to the trailhead.
