Description
The Crawford Nature Trail is an easy walking trail located on the Andrew Jackson State Park grounds.Covering a distance of about 1.1 miles, the trail - which is labeled as both the Crawford Trail and the Nature Trail on different park signs and literature - begins to the right of the Meeting House at the edge of the parking lot. From there, a signed fork marks the split, with the trail proceeding in a counterclockwise direction. It soon crosses a road, before paralleling that road beneath a canopy of mixed oak, cedar and pine trees. The path passes a picnic area and then begins a very gradual descent. While there are no signs along the trail after the initial fork, the route is generally easy to follow. Toward the end of the hike, as the trail reaches the road a second time, walkers will follow that road to the left for about 150 feet, before the trail continues into the forest on the other side, quickly leading back to the fork and the trailhead.Trail maps are available inside the Museum and Visitor Center building. There are no bathrooms or amenities along the hike. All amenities are located more centrally around the parking lot area of the park.
