Landscape Arch

Landscape Arch is a gravity-defying sandstone arch in Arches National Park. Spanning 290 feet in length, the arch is now believed to be one of the longest natural arches in the world. While visiting Arches National Park, it is a must-see geological wonder along with the cluster of sandstone features surrounding it, including Tunnel Arch, Pine Tree Arch, Double O Arch, and the Devils Garden. The trail begins from Devils Garden Trailhead, which is located at the north end of Arches Scenic Drive. This trail will take you to the Primitive Trail and is also a key access point to many other arches, including Double O Arch. The Landscape Arch Trail is well maintained, easy to follow, and relatively flat, gaining about 50 feet in elevation. The trail turns from hard-packed gravel to sand for the last quarter-mile as you approach the arch. You can no longer hike right up to the arch; it's fenced off due to large chunks of rock falling from the arch in the past few decades. After 0.3 miles on the trail, you will come to your first junction, where you can follow a spur trail to see Tunnel Arch and Pine Tree Arch, two lesser-known and less-crowded arches. Visiting these two arches will add 0.5 mile to your hike. To stay on the main trail, just follow the sign toward Landscape Arch. From here, it's roughly 0.6 mile to the main attraction. Once you see it, you'll wonder how it still standsathe arch is so thin. At this point, you can either turn around and head back to the parking lot or continue hiking to see more arches, though the trail becomes much more primitive from this point. You'll have to do some rock scrambling, walk on narrow ledges, and be comfortable with heights. You'll also follow cairns instead of signs, though there are still a couple of signs for the Double O Arch Trail.
