Description
Tuolumne Meadows to Donohue Pass is a 39.4-mile out-and-back in Yosemite National Park. It starts from Tuolumne Meadows and follows the John Muir Trail (JMT) / Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) south going up and over Donohue Pass. The route traverses through aromatic pine forests, flower filled meadows, and verdant valleys. As you ascend Donohue Pass, you will cross rocky terrain before reaching an area south of Donohue filled with pristine alpine lakes. You'll cross numerous side trails along the way, offering endless opportunities for further exploration. This route is open to runners, hikers, backpackers, and horseback riders. Most of the route is flat or gently rolling. The main challenge is the Donohue Pass climb, which you must do twice, once south and once north. Apart from that, the terrain is moderately difficult, with an elevation gain of 4,611 feet overall. After the pass, the route continues south to Waugh Lake, which is the turnaround point and an excellent spot for a short break or to enjoy a scenic campsite.
