Description
The REI River Trail is a 1.2-mile primitive trail complete with backpacking campsites on elevated platforms. The trail runs along the Scioto River where hikers can look over scenic bluffs, find the giant sycamore tree, and locate a small heron rookery. Backpacking campsites are available free and available via registration. This easy, primitive trail along the Scioto River begins at the north end of the park near the canoe access ramp. Of the five campsites in the park, two are along the REI River Trail. The trail merges with the Overlook and Mingo Trail where the remaining three campsites are located. This trail is great for the beginner backpacker learning a new skill and the advanced backpacker testing out the latest and greatest equipment. The trail is in a floodplain and will flood seasonally.
