Tribute Shoreline Trail

This hike and bike trail starts at a very nice trailhead parking area that includes restrooms, water fountains, informational signage, and even a bike repair stand with tools. The entirety of this trail follows along a 10-foot wide gravel path. As you start, you follow along the street to the south until you reach the Old American Golf Club. For the first mile, the path is shared with golf carts, so stay alert as there are some blind corners. Continue to follow the path towards the practice greens until you pass the netted area and reach pylons that designate the end of the trail for all motorized vehicles. At that point, you are only a short distance from the start of the loop. The trail is very easily navigated with mileage posted every 0.25 mile, as well as informational signage about wildlife, the local ecosystem and the history of the area. Each information posting is located next to a bench and a trash receptacle. The area is very well-maintained, as they were even resurfacing the trail while I was there. This is a great place to enjoy some gravel and dirt instead of the usual concrete trails that criss cross their way through most of the surrounding cities. A note of caution, the trail is very exposed and doesn't provide much shade except in the early morning and late evening hours. Plan accordingly and be sure and bring a hat and some sunscreen. At the far end of the loop, there is a turnoff for a quick hike out to the point of a peninsula where you get a great viewpoint of the surrounding Lake Lewisville. Overall, this is a solid trail that everyone is sure to enjoy.
