Description
The Lake Trail is the easiest trail in Fort Mountain State Park. It winds its way gently around the lake, generally within a few feet of the shore. Most of the trail is 3-4 feet wide with very moderate grades and a good coating of gravel. It's easily accessible from the main campground and there is a small beach/swimming area near the north end. It forms part of a nature trail, so there are interpretive signs around the whole lake that point out and explain some of the local plants and animals. This is a multi-use trail that's popular with other trail users, so don't try to beat the course speed record. There are are a couple of short steep sections that novices may find difficult and the narrow singletrack along the dam at the east side may also present difficulties for newer riders.
