Confidence
Plan on late July at the earliest to avoid snow melt and to make sure the singletrack trail portion has been cleared.
Path Type
Point to Point
The Gunsight Trail #685 (also called the Gunsight Butte Trail #685) has numerous short climbs, dips, and several more rugged sections. At just over five miles long the trail parallels FR-3550, even joining the road at a few discrete points. The trail dips in and out of the forest, across open meadows, and reaches a high point of 5920 feet. Here soak in the wide open views of Mt. Hood to the west by hiking a short distance off the trail out on the rocky outcrop. The trail dips and then climbs again wrapping around Gunsight Butte before sharply descending to Gumjuwac Saddle at its northern end.
