The lake campsites have access to the trail, for day visitors and other campers there are access points at each dock and swim area as well. After a rain expect some mud. The trail offers tree coverage most of the time. There are white markers on the trees that make it easy to not get lost.
The start point is at the newer more commonly used pavilion/dock. A couple trails can be taken from this trail. Hopefully someone will map them too. The temperature changes on the trail are a neat addition to the beautiful scenery. We did not come in contact with much wildlife (it was 95 degrees and the middle of the day).
There is a point where the lake berm provides no trees for markings that is the correct way to continue the trail. This was one of my favorite spots for a picture.
