Loop
The North Prairie Loop begins by heading east along an open prairie before terminating at an old river channel that is a seasonal wetland.
The North Prairie Loop is similar to the South Prairie Loop in length and surface. Along the North Loop, you'll view the towering Crescent Hills where you may see hawks and vultures soaring as they take advantage of the thermals and uplifts created by the hills.
Both the South and North Prairies are managed by fire. Fire helps eliminate the woody vegetation that, if left unchecked, will choke out the native prairie vegetation. Additionally, fire encourages the growth of the native grasses and wildflowers.
From the North Prairie Loop, you can connect to the Chubb Trail of the South Prairie Loop if you are looking for a longer hike.
