Tecopa Ridgeline Trail

The Tecopa Ridgeline Trail is probably the best hike in Tecopa for those looking for a moderately easy trail with a fair distance that in turn offers views over the small town while feeling fairly off the beaten path. Short of a path that slogs through mud, this will probably be the most challenging hiking trail in the central part of the town.The hike traces a single track up a dry rocky path that feels like a loose shale staircase as it climbs the backside of tallest line of peaks in Tecopa. With about 300 feet in quick elevation gain, the path reaches the ridgeline, where a use path traces the ridge between several high points that each offer a view over the town and the Amargosa River valley below. Without even a single tree, the hike follows a path completely exposed to sun and wind, with panoramic views into the distance letting hikers bask in the sheer vastness of the Mojave Desert region that surrounds the area.Stones line the length of the trail, making the route unmistakable, and a couple small features of interest like a rock compass sit atop the peaks.Hikers can head straight to the highest point, but at 1.9 miles total, the distance is short enough that each of the high points can be easily visited while on the hike.There are no marking are signage along the path. The best way to access the trail is to park offroad near the southern intersection of Noonday and Sundown streets and walk toward the large tree in the wash. Just around the backside of the tree, the trail becomes clearly apparent.There are no amenities of any kind along the trail. Cel phone reception is very spotty throughout Tecopa.
