Description
Lost Creek Falls is a beautiful, unknown, and fairly easily accessed waterfall in Yellowstone. I have now been to the falls twice and have never seen another person. I love Yellowstone and I love it even more when I can escape the crowds. This trail is a very easy half mile round trip hike. You will gain about 100 feet of elevation meaning this hike is suitable for most and is great for families. There is a little scrambling over logs and rocks. The trail starts right in the backyard of the Roosevelt Lodge. The lodge is located right by the turn for Lamar Valley which is between the Mammoth, and Tower area. There is a large trailhead sign to point you in the right direction to the falls. This hike goes right through one of the best areas in the park for both black and grizzly bears. Do not do this without bear spray. Bears are in the area daily so it's always better to be safe than sorry. The trail is in shade and thick forest the entire way and is very beautiful! It follows Lost Creek the entire way. After 10-15 minutes you will see the falls come into view. It is a single waterfall that I would guess is about 40 feet tall. You will return to the parking lot the same way you came. This is a must stop if you are in the area. It's beautiful, uncrowded, and has lots of shade all year.
