Loop
Continue north from the Genevieve Gillette Visitor Center, toward the Walk-A-Mile Trail parking area, change court, and toilets. Head back toward the entrance to the parking area to find the start of the trail heading into the woods to the left (north). Expect an abrupt, steep climb to get your heart rate up before a gradual, winding descent. Enjoy the quiet solitude as you near the lakeshore with a final sandy descent to the beach. Break out a picnic, frisbee, or continue to stroll south toward a sandy clearing on your left that marks the short connection back to the parking area on the Beach Trail.
Named after Percy J. Hoffmaster (1893-1951), the longest acting Director of the Department of Conservation in Michigan, who also helped establish 72 state parks. Hoffmaster State Park was dedicated in 1967.
