Richards Hollow Waterfall

This is a great trail that is located in the southern part of Cache County, Utah. It is on the Left Hand Fork road which is just off of the Blacksmith Fork Canyon Road. A passenger car can make it to the trail with caution. The gate opens April 15th, and closes December 15th. Although the trail is not a secret it still does not get many visitors. There is a decent sized stream that can run year round or not at all on dry years. It definitely fluctuates a lot. In 2015 it was bone dry all year. In 2016 it had a ton of water. This trek covers the trail up to the 25 foot waterfall that is very pretty and quite impressive during the spring. The trail is open to hikers, bikers, and dirt bikes. No ATV's. The trailhead is located just after the Friendship Campground and is marked by a sign. The trail immediately starts to climb but is not very strenuous. It stays very steady the entire way. If you look back toward the road once you have climbed a little you will see a great example of the beautiful limestone cliffs always present in the Bear River Range. The canyon will start to narrow and you will have many large cliffs above you. Again the views behind you are gorgeous. The stream runs very strong along this section and there are three creek crossings. I was able to stay dry doing some balancing on wet rocks that some people would not be able to do. Especially if you have kids I would just plan on getting your feet wet so you aren't taken off guard. The creek is very peaceful as it parallels the trail. Along the trail someone has created a cool chair out of rocks. The trail will eventually start a series of easy switchbacks. The stream here is full of several impressive cascades. I was here in the late evening and was treated to some great views as the sun went down. You will hear the falls before you reach them. They are visible from the trail but you will have to descend a steep gully about 30 feet to get to the base of the waterfall. Please exercise caution getting to the base and it can be loose footing. I was surprised how much power the falls had. Pictures really don't do it justice. I would guess it is about 25 feet high. This makes a great evening trip and you can return straight back. If you have extra energy the trail keeps climbing all the way to the Logan Peak Road.
