Description
Spring Creek Canyon is located just off the I-15 Freeway in the town of Kanarraville, Utah. The nearby waterfall hike has become incredibly popular, but not many people seem to head to Spring Creek and its large slot canyons. While it does not have the picturesque waterfall or the super tight slots, this hike does offer some really beautiful sights with solitude. The trail starts off as a wide canyon mouth that continues on for 1.25 miles before you get to the first tight areas. The four or five distinct slot canyons never get very thin but are always breathtaking in their soaring beauty. The sandstone ascends nearly a thousand feet into the air on both sides and makes you feel more like you are in Zion National Park than on a random BLM trail. You might feel this way for good reason because the northern section of Zion National Park known as Kolob Canyon sits just south of here. This is Kolob without the fees or the crowds, and the scenery here rivals any in the park. Plus, dogs are allowed to join you here unlike the trails in national parks. Note that it is imperative to avoid these areas if you know of any rain anywhere in the greater area. This whole area was created by floods, so you don't want to get caught in one. There are several side trails and canyons jutting off from multiple sides, so this hike can be done many times and still remain new. It also looks like a hike that can be done any time of year, but the summer can get dangerously hot when you are on the exposed parts of the trail.
