Description
Start out of the primitive camping area on relatively flat trail for about a mile. There's nothing special here, but it's cool to see the hot desert canyons many thousands of feet below as you hike in the cool forest. Soon the trail starts climbing, and the steepest section continues for 2.5 miles. You then break out into spectacular meadow, which can be filled with flowers or changing aspen depending on the season. Both the open areas and the forests are gorgeous, and the miles will click by until you reach the high alpine, where very dense, dark, and cool pine forests hit you with some steep switchbacks. One final set of great views take you to the saddle between Twin Peaks at 10,500'. Most people will turn around here, though the trail continues down another mile to meet the Spring Creek Trail (159). You could make a long loop by descending on the Spring Creek Trail #159 and returning via the road, but just returning the way you came offers the best views.
