Pacifico Mountain Road

This 18.50-mile out-and-back route follows Pacifico Mountain Road, a lightly traveled, multi-use backcountry dirt road located between Highway 2 and Highway 59 in the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. It stretches from Mill Creek Station Trailhead to the top of Mount Pacifico and continues to Alder Saddle. The trail winds its way along the slopes of the San Gabriel Mountains, traversing beautiful High Desert terrain with panoramic views and colorful wildflowers in spring. The top of Mount Pacifico (7124') offers fantastic views of the San Gabriel Mountain range and the Mojave Desert, as well as a quiet, primitive campground. The terrain is rocky, and the road is wide, allowing travelers to walk or run side by side. Featuring scenic vistas and backcountry camping opportunities, this route is suitable for day trips or overnight backpack trips.SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) runs parallel to parts of Pacifico Mountain Road, sometimes crossing over it. March - May are the busiest times of year for this hike due to the influx of northbound PCT hikers. There is no water on the trail, be sure to bring and carry all that you need.The trail is accessible year-round, but some parts may get snow in the winter. The campground on the rocky summit is only accessible by foot or vehicle. This area is home to many types of wildlife including black bears. Before heading out, make sure to familiarize yourself with the necessary information to be bear aware.MILL CREEK TRAILHEAD INFORMATIONThe Mill Creek Picnic Area has a paved parking area, bathrooms, and picnic tables.
