Description
The Branceforte Creek Trail is a quick dog-friendly hike that takes you near the Top Of The World at DeLaveaga Park. The trailhead starts at the stairs near the restrooms at the main lower parking lot. Heading left from the trailhead takes you down the Branceforte Creek Trail, and heading right will take you to the start of the La Corona Trail. The Branceforte Creek Trail terminates about three-quarters of the way up La Corona Trail, so they can be hiked in conjunction to make a loop. Finishing La Corona will take you to the Top Of The World, where a 27-hole Disk Golf course can also be found. This trail is mostly easy going as it cuts through patches of pine, oak, and redwood trees. Small glimpses of Branceforte Creek can be seen through the brush in the lower lying areas. Landslides are possible during rainy times of the year, and trails throughout the park can become muddy and slick, so use caution. Hikers and bike riders both utilize the trails in DeLaveaga Park, so keep an ear out for oncoming traffic. The last third of the hike is a series of switchbacks that ascend quickly and eventually connect to La Corona Trail. A few viewpoints of the surrounding park can be found just before the trail ends. Continue uphill to reach the Top Of The World, or head down La Corona to complete the loop.
