Jewel Lake Loop

Jewel Lake Loop is less than a mile long and good for wildlife watching. The trail begins about 0.25 miles down the fire road at the Tilden Nature Area entrance. Look for a Jewel Lake Loop trail marker on the left side of the trail, and follow the numbered markers, identifiable by a flying duck, along the length of the trail. The trail begins by passing Jewel Lake, a small and unassuming body of water that attracts a variety of birds and small mammals. The rest of the trail is lined by eucalyptus, oak, and bay trees. Those looking for a more strenuous hike can take the Jewel Lake Trail until it connects to Wildcat Peak Trail, and those hoping for a more leisurely experience can start or end their day at the Environmental Education Center at the trailhead. This is an easy trail and all inclines have small sets of stairs built in. Though not entirely wheelchair accessible, visitors with accessibility needs can enjoy the beginning of the trail from the fire road and boardwalk at the start of the trail.
