Access Issues
This trail is typically snow-covered from late-November through sometime in April. Also, watch out for mud in the early spring or just after major rains. This trail isn't quite as sandy as many of the surrounding areas.

Description
This trail provides an alternate route parallel to Lightning Creek Road (FS 611). Although the sign at the bottom end specifies non-motorized use only, it has become an ATV-width trail for its entire length. The best way to hike this trail is to access the upper end using Lightning Creek Road as part of a longer loop. There's no signage at the upper end, so watch carefully for tracks leaving the road to the left (downhill). Follow this path through the trees, you'll soon come to the trail's only steep section, then pass the "Rocket" on your left and wind your way back down to the gate at the bottom. There are a number of ups and downs and switchbacks to keep things interesting. To get there, drive about 7.0 miles north of Crouch on Middlefork Road and turn right on Lightning Creek Road. One could start the hike at the bottom to add several miles and about 400 feet of climbing, but there aren't any good parking areas there. So, it's suggested to drive until you see the first green gate (bottom of the Rocket Trail) on the left and park there. Other parking spots are available further up the road as well.
