Description
This is a specially designated area within the US Forest Service set up to protect these rare Iron Fens. The hike is a jeep road, but it is closed to traffic. The Forest Service has recently installed footbridges at the water crossing, about a third of the way in, but they are somewhat poorly marked. There are very good views at times, especially when crossing the avalanche zone. Otherwise, that trail is straightforward, except when you come to a fork in the road about two-thirds of the way up; stay to the right to see the main iron fens. Tread carefully around the Iron Fens so as to prevent damage to the area.
