Description
This flat, paved multi-use trail parallels the Meramec River. You can access the trail from a trailhead at either end of the trail. The eastern trailhead is located at Krumm Road (just off of I-55 and Meramec Bottom Road). The western trailhead is located off of Meramec Bottom Road at Holzer Road. Neither trailhead has drinking water or modern restroom facilities. The Meramec Greenway Trail winds through what used to be old clubhouse communities although the buildings were removed after the land was purchased. The open areas where the buildings used to stand are now developing into young woodlands. The trail also passes by some of the open areas that have been planted with prairie grasses and wildflowers. Most of the trail is shaded by towering oaks. In the future, the trail will continue both upstream and downstream as new sections of the Meramec Greenway Trail system are added. Be aware that the trail can flood during times of high water or heavy rain.
