Description
Hotel Trail runs southeast in the tree studded grass hills on the east side of the San Felipe Creek Valley of Joseph D. Grant County Park. It begins along Mt Hamilton Road just across the road from Yerba Buena Trail, so is easily accessible from the parking area at the Yerba Buena Trail start. To do this, take Yerba Buena Trail for 0.1 miles to where there is a sign post for Loop Trail. This is wrong, Loop Trail is not here, but this is where you cross Mt. Hamilton Road and go through the gate to start hiking Hotel Trail. From its start, Hotel Trail travels through the grass hills climbing and descending over its 3.4 mile length. It is an open trail with views of the beautiful Diablo Range all around. At the 0.3 mark it passes Access Road on the right (west), which is another way to access Hotel Trail from a close by parking area. As Hotel Trail travels to the remote southern edge of the park, it passes many trails along the way - Loop Trail at the 0.3 and 0.5 mile marks, Lower Hotel Trail at the 0.9 mile mark, Bass Lake Trail at the 1.1 mile mark, and Corral Trail at the 1.7 mile mark. There is an interesting old corral nearby to the right (west) at the Corral Trail junction. Hotel Trail then climbs to Canada de Pala Trail at the 2.2 mile mark. Continuing to climb steadily, passing cows, and with great views of the San Felipe Creek Valley looking back to the northwest as it climbs, Hotel Trail finally ends at Foothill Trail and tiny Eagle Lake after 3.4 miles.
