Description
The 10-kilometer loop around Oxbow Slough is a wonderful way to explore Minto-Brown Island Park. Well signed and easy to follow, this loop can be hiked clockwise or counter-clockwise. If walking clockwise, youall soon come to the mighty Willamette River. This river is responsible for the wetland/floodplain environment that makes up the majority of Minto-Brown Island Park. Youall continue alongside the river for a while before taking a right and moving into terrain with more trees and meadows. The 10-kilometer loop trail soon crosses the entrance road and follows it back toward where you first entered the park. The trail then veers toward a small pond, where youall find a fishing dock. Soon youall come to the Oxbow Slough. For the remainder of the loop youall be walking around this swampy area until you arrive back at the parking lot. The 10-kilometer loop is mostly flat and paved the entire way. While it is great for bicycling, runners/hikers may find it hard on the feet if used to walking on dirt trails.
