Did you know that itas possible to tell how old a mountain goat is by counting the rings on the goatas horns? Explore Blue Lakes Trail and you may be lucky enough to spot a couple of mountain goats! Blue Lakes Trail is the perfect afternoon hike for adventurers in the Breckenridge area looking to stretch their legs and enjoy the local scenery. This hike features beautiful mountain views, a nice-sized lake, and a variety of wildlife species. A herd of mountain goats is known to roam in this area and feasts on the salt and other minerals present in the soil and rock. After hiking and exploring the trail overlooking the lake, adventurers can relax on the shores of the lake and enjoy a late afternoon picnic or visit the nearby waterfalls, which are especially intense during the spring snow melt. While the herd is tolerant of hikers and adventurers, take care to keep your distance, especially when young are present in the herd. Keep dogs on a leash at all times. The road leading to the lake is rough, and four-wheel drive may be needed when the road is in poor condition. The road can also be hiked if you find it impassable in your vehicle. Snowshoes are recommended in the winter.
