Path Type
There and Back
The route begins and ends at the Quandary Trailhead on Blue Lakes Road at 10,850'. From the trailhead kiosk, follow the trail to the McCullough Gulch Road 851. Turn right and walk 0.25 miles along the road, then turn left onto the signed Quandary Peak trail. Climb through conifer forest, passing a large boulder, then turn right to continue on the well-worn trail. Above 11,300', the forest opens into clearings and the East Ridge comes fully into view near 11,600'. Continue 0.2 miles to the base of the upper slope. The trail veers left onto the south side of the ridge, traversing gradually back toward the crest. Near 12,800', rejoin the ridge and follow it west to a 13,150' shoulder. From here, the route stays on the ridge for the final 1,100 vertical feet to the 14,272' summit. Retrace your steps to descend
Quandary Peak, while lumped in with the Mosquito Range Fourteeners, is the only 14er truly in the Tenmile Range. It is consistently one of the most crowded routes every summer.
All Clear
2 small snow sections easily bypassed or stepped through. Parking lot had few ppl at 6am, and still plenty of space at noon. Do before the June 12 reservation system clicks in.
