Quoddy Head Tour

From the main parking area, head over to the West Quoddy Head Light, originally contracted in 1858 to replace the original lighthouse built in 1808. After visiting the former light keeper's quarters (the tower is closed to visitors) hop on the Coast Guard Trail. The trail winds in and out of the woods above the rocky coast. There are sporadic viewpoints along the way but the best is at the northern point at Quoddy Head Viewpoint. Here you'll have nice views of the coast and the town of Lubec. Continue to follow the Coast Guard Trail back to the road, pass the lighthouse and main parking area and join up with the Coastal Trail.The Coastal Trail winds right along the rocky and often cliffed-out coast. As such, you'll have amazing views. Follow the trail all the way to Gulliver's Hole (a narrow chasm in the cliff) and High Ledge (150-foot tall bluff). From here, continue to follow the Coastal Trail until you reach Green Point. Take the Green Point Trail to a rock outcrop where you can navigate down to the beach (just be careful around high tide).After enjoying the beach, head back via the Inland Trail. This will let you take a swing along the Bog Trail. This is a nice option to learn about some of the ecology of the area. There are interpretive signs along the length of the boardwalk and nice views of the bog at the end. Turn back and continue following the Inland Trail until you end up back at the parking area.
