Path Type
There and Back
This route starts and ends at the Lewis Pond Overlook parking area, within the Silvio O. Conte National Wildlife Refuge's Nulhegan Basin Division.
From the parking area, follow a woods road used by snowmobiles in winter for less than 0.1 miles, then bear right into the woods at a signed junction. The trail passes a forest clearing with a view toward Lewis Pond, then sidehills through mature, open forest before climbing more steeply into upper-elevation softwood.
Cross several stretches of wet, open bedrock with occasional south- and east-facing views, pass a low knoll, and push through a short blowdown area before reaching the wooded summit at the site of a historic fire warden's cabin at 2.3 miles.
Retrace the same route back to the overlook for a round trip of about 4.6 miles, gaining roughly 1,240 vertical feet.
