Trail Overview

Salt Fork Section Creek 3 trail follows along the historic fork of the Salt Fork, part of the Red River, that carved the Palo Duro Canyon. Section 3 is the grown-up angry older brother of 1 and 2. This section is a black level and recommends an experienced driver, excellent spotters, and 35-inch tires. This section has large boulders to navigate and without armor expect some body damage. There are bypasses to some of the larger obstacles but these are challenging as well. This trail does run in the creek along the canyon walls, also making it excellent for pictures.

Difficulty

This is a creek bed trail that is a choose-your-own-adventure with difficult lines within the creek bed. Many places have 2 or 3 lines defined. The trail can be rather dangerous in the rain. Salt Fork Section 3 has rocks from small to large boulders throughout with sand and and red clay making up the creek bed. Correct tire placement will be important in parts of the creek as it is easy to get hung up on the rocks. This is a trail you do not want to do alone with many places to get hung up and body damage possible.
