Trail Overview

Trail 15 stands out among Doe Mountain's trail network for its unique setting and features. Unlike many trails enclosed in dense rhododendron, Trail 15 follows a scenic ridge line framed by southern red oaks, maples, and sourwoods. Riders are treated to intermittent views of the town below, adding to the trail's appeal. A carved wooden bear near the western entrance adds a memorable landmark. The route offers moderate difficulty, with a mix of steep climbs and descents, embedded roots, and short ledges formed by natural erosion and exposed roots. The ridge section winds tightly between the trees, offering a more technical but enjoyable experience for riders with some trail experience. After 1.5 miles, the trail turns south, descending toward Parlor Village via many gradual switchbacks, providing both challenge and the unique opportunity to ride directly into town for a meal at local spots like Subway, Pablanos Mexican Grill, or Hardee's.

Access Description

Doe Mountain Recreation Area is open year-round, daily from sunrise to sunset, with the Adventure Center Office operating from 8 AM to 4:30 PM. There are several access points into the area, and User Passes--required at all times--can be purchased either at the office or online. The trail system welcomes dirt bikes, ATVs, and side-by-sides, but is closed to Jeeps, cars, and trucks. For those looking to explore without their own machine, the Adventure Center also offers SXS rentals. Riders will find scenic lookouts scattered throughout the trails, along with non-motorized hiking paths and limited cell service. While overnight camping isn't permitted within the park, campgrounds are available nearby in Doe Valley. Most trails support two-way traffic, and weekends can get quite busy--so plan accordingly.
