Trail Overview

The Jericho Mountain 4x4 & Jeep trail network is the only state-approved off-road trail* system for full-size vehicles in the state of New Hampshire. The trail System is managed and maintained by the North Woods Off Road Jeep Club, and the trail system offers the only "Jeep Badge of Honor" in NH. This trail is the main entry route rated "easiest" and provides access to "More Difficult", "Most Difficult", and "Extreme" rated trails. This route is slow, challenging, and involves navigating a series of rock gardens and technical obstacles. This main access trail runs parallel to the "Lake Loop" trail (OHV only) from the Jericho Visitor Center and is an out & back route. Accessed via a large orange gate at the rear of the Visitor Center parking area opposite the Visitor Center itself. The trail ratings used in this trail system are rock-crawler oriented. This means even "Easiest" trails are significantly more difficult than the typical New England washed-out forest road and rank about a 7/10 for a stock Jeep Rubicon or lifted 4Runner/Tacoma on 33s or 35s. High centering, scraping, and light body damage are possible even on "easiest" rated trails. The Club defines "Easiest" trails as requiring a minimum 33" tire and winch. "More Difficult" trails require 35" or larger tires, a winch, and lockers. "Most Difficult" rated trails require a "heavily modified vehicle" 38" or larger tires, a winch, and lockers. "Extreme" rated trails are impassible by most vehicles and require 40" plus tires, 2 lockers, 2 winches, roll/exo-cage, challenging even for the most rock-crawling-oriented vehicles and experienced drivers. The Jericho Mountain 4x4 Truck & Jeep trails are true "trails" designed to test a vehicle/driver and do not provide access to views, vistas, or other points of interest; however, similar opportunities exist in the surrounding area.
