Trail Overview
Behind the Reef
Behind the Reef is a popular ATV and UTV trail, but is wide enough for Jeeps. The rocky and beautiful trail has several options to loop back that vary in length, some quite a bit longer. When starting the route, you'll pass through the Temple Mountain recreation area with camping, vault toilets, and fun spur roads for ATVs and UTVs. Check out some Native American art .5 miles after the first large staging area. (Look for a large pipe sticking out on your right).
Getting There
Get off I-70 at exit 149 and head south on Hwy. 24 about 24 miles. At mile marker 136, turn right on paved road following sign to Temple Mountain. Continue west where road goes south to Goblin Valley State Park. You'll pass a large staging area on left followed by many dispersed camping spots. Pavement soon ends. After another large camping area on right, turn left at 7.3 miles on wide dirt road following sign to Behind the Reef. Go another 6.3 miles to trailhead on right.
