Trail Overview
Rabbit Ears Peak
Rabbit Ears Peak is a short trail, but very challenging and fun for experienced drivers. Enjoy stunning views from the top and find camping along FS 311. This is a heavily used area for hikers so please be respectful, taking care to pull all the way over for those on foot. This trail is open July 1 through November.
The distinctive rabbit ears look is most prominent from the southeast looking northwest. Over the years, the tips of the ears have eroded due to the softness of the rock, an ancient volcanic plug. Still, the landmark remains a beacon for travelers crossing the Gore Range into Yampa Valley.
Getting There
Take Hwy. 40 north from Kremmling to Rabbit Ears Pass. Turn right at sign for Dumont Lake 0.3 mile after mile marker 153. Follow paved road north, then northeast. Go past Dumont Lake Campground. After total of 1.5 miles, turn left into parking lot with large boulder and a memorial plaque. This is the start of F.S. 311.
