Trail Overview
Byers Peak
Take this drive from Winter Park to the popular Byers Peak Hiking Trail. There are a lot of different things to enjoy there from hiking and biking, to camping and offroading. Unlicensed vehicles are not allowed on some portions of this trail. Open June 15 to November 15.
Byers Peak was named after William N. Byers, co-founder of Colorado’s first newspaper, the Rocky Mountain News, in 1859. In 2009, the paper went out of business after 150 years.
Getting There
Head west on Vasquez Road from the south end of downtown Winter Park. Continue straight as you go by both ends of Van Anderson Drive. After 1 mile, pavement ends. Continue straight on F.S.148 as it turns southwest.
