Trail Overview
Mount Zion
North of Leadville, Mount Zion is a short, but fun ride. You will reach Mount Zion a little over halfway up the trail. Enjoy the views of Leadville and Turquoise Lake, and continue on to the end of the road near Buckeye Peak for even better views. FS 109 is open all year, but FS 189 is closed until June 30.
Getting There
Head north out of Leadville on Highway 24. Just north of town after last gas station, stay left on 24 where Highway 91 goes straight (it’s easy to miss this turn). Go 1.4 miles and turn right on unmarked dirt road. Road is not obvious because it crosses an open dirt area. Dispersed camping is allowed farther back in the trees after F.S. 109 splits to the left.
